Mortlake Garden Club
The Mortlake Garden Club was first convened at a public meeting on June 18th, 1984 and still meets monthly on the second Tuesday of the month. This small but enthusiastic club has around 16 members.
The Garden Club was instrumental in encouraging the people of Mortlake to decorate their homes and gardens at Christmas time, and from small beginnings, this has grown into a show enjoyed by all. The club regularly does displays for community events, such as the Annual Rose Show at St James' Anglican Church, as well as attaching some 140 red bows to the trees in the main street for the last few years.
Further to this, eight indoor atriums at Abbeyfield House Aged Care Hostel have been designed and planted by members, as well as a perfumed garden at the Mortlake Health Service Day Care Centre, which is maintained by members on a monthly rostered basis.
