Though not obeying her older siblings, Neta helped her overworked mother as much as she could. The boys started going out with their father at age nine, but this still left Imber to care for an 7, 5, and 2 year old. Luckily, Imber was able to stay home and care for her children, and she is still glad she could, no matter how hard it was. Imber was helped by several of the older folks. The retired fisherman told the children tales of fierce gales and giant fish, and the other retired folk taught what they knew. Neta picked up a lot of knowledge of the sea this way, as well as learning to crochet, embroider, identify over 200 plants, and 10 different ways of cooking fish stew.

When the plague first hit, Neta was stunned. This was her first close encounter with death. Many of the retired folk, including her three living grandparents, were the first to go. Imber had just given birth to Meran, and everyone was worried about both mother and child. Then Mortimer got sick. Neta had always been closer to him than Trent, mainly because Mort didn't call her names. When he died, Neta was crushed. She hadn't really understood what the plague meant before this. Older folks had died, but they were old. Some of her friend's siblings had died, but she never thought that would happen to her. Instead of simply crying as many children her age would, she began taking care of her little sisters for her mother. When Meran died, she was dealt another, greater, blow. She became moody and depressed. After trying everything else, to bring her out, her father took her on as an apprentice. There was little time to be depressed on the fishing boat, and she became her cheerful self once more. She became closer to all her family, and loves them dearly. She no longer fights with Trent, she often helped Candra with designs for her weaving, and she is especially close to Laraine. She would soon have been promoted to Journeywoman when she was Searched. She fit in well at the Weyr, and made many friends. She Impressed green Caelith at the first Hatching she stood at.

Personality
Veneta is usually very patient, but when she gets mad the target of her wrath had better get out of the way quickly! She has gotten in trouble multiple times for fighting with the others at the sea hold, often caused by her standing up for herself and other people. She hates name-calling, whether it's directed at her or someone else. She is feisty and very stubborn, and won't hesitate to give someone a piece of her mind if she thinks they need it. She is very daring and adventurous, and has gotten in big trouble for a few of her more daring exploits. She is a terrible flirt, with a few of her more jealous peers claiming she goes after anything in trousers, but she never goes further than a kiss. She is kind to everyone, and has a soft spot for children.

Veneta is very active, and enjoys exploring practically everywhere. She likes to swim and sail, and is good at both since she grew up in a sea hold. She likes to sing, which she is moderately good at, but excels at drawing and painting. She considers flirting an art, and practices often. She also reads often and tries to learn as much as she can.

Caelith will investigate anything she thinks looks interesting. Unless she's investigating, she tends to stay out of the way, and is rather quiet. She is serious and sober more often than her rider. She is sensitive to Neta's moods, and becomes upset whenever Neta is angry or sad. She is above normal in intelligence for a green.

Caelith can't wait to fly Thread. She gets doesn't get excited over much, but she wants to prove her abilities. She is very quick and nimble, but like all greens lacks the stamina of the larger dragons. She pays more attention to people than most dragons, and is more intelligent than many greens.
