| The Basics of the Paperclip Theory |

| Don't look for this in any publications just yet. And, I assure you it's VERY complicated, but it boils down to this... all of the differences between men and women can be narrowed down to a paperclip. Just think, what happens when you give a guy a paperclip? He's entertained forever - or at least until some other pretty color occupies his mind. He'll bend it, twist it, bite it, make little projectiles to shoot across the room, make little animals, whatever. Men can play with a paperclip forever. It's a symbol of our basic needs. We find joy in the most elementary things ... food, sports, sex, cars, power tools, etc.. The fact is, men are simpleminded. I'm currently working on a sideline project called the "Grunt, Scratch, & Eat" phenomenon to completely describe this concept. Women on the other hand, are the opposite of course. VERY complicated. Holy crap. Now, I'm not being misogynistic mind you... but women have a tendency to overcomplicate things just a tad. Since men are du-... uh ... rather "simpleminded" we get confused by that. Give a woman a paperclip and what happens? She uses it for its intended purpose. Or, she asks why you gave it to her, and in the absence of a good answer, creates an entire scenario on her own. "What're you trying to say by giving me this paperclip?? You think I'm fat don't you??" This is naturally a source of conflict, I think, for most interpersonal relationships. Women are convinced that men have an ulterior motive and ure just pretending to be dumb. When, in fact, we really are. Of course in the absence of any solid information, they will make up whatever scenario gives them the overall advantage of the situation and put the man on the defensive. Since most of the time that created scenario holds no logic or rationale, it is impossible to argue. That's the basics of it. Like I said, it's very complicated and involves lots of personal research and ethnography and whatnot... but that's the core. The cruelest thing of course is the fact that despite all of these seemingly polar differences, the cosmic paradox is that Men and Women just can't survive without one another. in fact... we seek this conflict like moths to a flame. |
