History
I bought this 1981 Monte off my friend Cartesian in the spring of 1997.  He had bought the car with a 377" small block, iron heads, comp cams 292H, Weiand single plane manifold, Holley vacuum secondary carb, 1 5/8" headers, 4.11 gear in a ford 9" and a turbo 350 trans.  He also bought a wrecked '87 Monte SS and transferred many of the parts and repainted most of the car. *Weight with Driver

This was not nearly enough speed for me so I took out the motor in the winter of 1998 and replaced basically everything in it, but it is still the same 400 block.

I swapped out the 350 trans for a 700-R4.  The revs on the highway were killer.  I also added Hoosier-Daddy 28X10 slicks.

The slower MPH was a bit of a dissappointment, but my stock Ford Trac-Loc differential was pretty much toast, so I couldn't get a good bit off the line.  A Moser spool solved that issue.

Now the tranny was really slipping on the 1-2 shift.  Time to have it rebuilt by Select.

The exhaust was still an old custom-bent 2 1/2" system with 2-chamber Flows.  In the spring of '01 I changed the exhaust system, replaced the flex fan with electric fans, and added an airbag to the right rear spring.  I also gave the BFG's another shot.

The next round I removed some weight via a fiberglass hood.  It was a very hot and humid day, so the times don't reflect that.

For the next couple of trips the results were pretty much the same until I added the NOS Big Shot system.
