Chapter 7
When they had gotten back to the campsite Diana was still crying and William had a bloody nose. Mr. Reed was talking to Diana about what happened while Mrs. Reed was taking care of Williams scratches, cuts, and bloody nose. Diana only glared at William, not listening to a word of Mr. Reeds lecture. Her heart was now filled with hatred for William once again, instead of friendship.
During the evening and the next morning Diana ignored William and basically everyone else as well. She wanted to get out from where she was. She needed to be in the woods, with her real family. She felt that the animals were her family, not the humans. All humans did were hurt other living things.
Before the families were about to go out and hunt again William went to talk to Diana. Im sorry, for killing that deer. I know I promised, but it was a great opportunity William was cut off. Great opportunity for what? For killing a helpless deer? That deer probably had a family which is now probably suffering of hunger and no protection! Diana spat into his face. William looked away ashamed. He got up and walked away knowing that he wasnt going to be forgiven.
Diana come on, were going now. Thomas said. Im not going. She said. You have to. Now come on! Thomas said. I am not going anywhere with a bunch of killers, and thats final! She yelled. Diana ran into the forest leaving Thomas standing there telling her to come back. Leave her alone Thomas. Its going to get dark soon, shell get scared and come back. Said Mr. Reed. Fine, she can get lost and rot in a hole somewhere in the forest for all I care. Thomas mumbled to himself.
