We plan at least 2-3 activities each week, such as park days, music activities, lunch outings, craft activities, field trips (the zoo, post office, or fire station), and stroller walks. Because of our members' busy schedules, we believe it is important to plan an active calendar to ensure that everyone will be able to participate at least a few times a month. The MOMS Club sponsors a variety of activity groups for its members. When members want to share a common interest on a regular basis, they form an activity group. Each activity group is open to all members. These groups may change as interests change, but include activities such as children's playgroups, a book review group, a monthly Mom's night out, a baby-sitting co-op and a recipe club. Our chapter holds its business meetings the 2nd Thursday of the month at 9:30 am (see Membership). Our programs include a guest speaker, topic for group discussion, or special activity.
The Book Club meets at a home or park each month to discuss a selection chosen by the group the previous month. We then chat about any new material we would like to read, review the current Book World from the Sunday edition of the Washington Post and/or the descriptions on the internet by the Readers Cafe Book Club Sets provided to us by the Montgomery County Public Libraries. A choice is then made and we are off reading until the next meeting. Library Books are conveniently picked up and returned at regular meeting dates. The monthly selection is announced in each month's newsletter. The Recipe Club meets each month. Club members make recipes or bring recipe directions related to a Theme of the Month. It is a lot of fun to see what combinations turn up each month. How can you go wrong with a gathering centered around eating? Information on the theme is announced in each month's newsletter. The Babysitting Co-op is a group of MOMS Club members who volunteer to watch each other's children in exchange for coupons, adhering to a set of guidelines for consistency among the members and for the safety of our children. We meet monthly at a member's home to get to know one another and have the children play. We also discuss any important issues pertaining to the co-op. Participation is voluntary, but you must be a member of the MOMS Club of Norbeck and you must attend at least four Co-op meetings a year. The monthly meeting date and location are announced in each month's newsletter. Playdates are scheduled to meet in family-friendly public places, where moms and our children play and talk together. Playdates are listed in the newsletter, and sign-up sheets are available at the monthly meetings. The day before a playdate, a reminder email will usually be sent to those who signed up. It's ok to come at the spur of the moment, or to sign up when you're not sure you can come. Playgroups are a great way to form close relationships with other mothers who have children the same age as yours. Most playgroups meet every week, some less frequently, depending on schedules. They may meet outside or inside, depending on the weather and the interests in the group. The Walking Club was formed as a way to get some exercise while being out with friends. The club meets once per week at different locations and the walks are stroller friendly. The locations are listed in the newsletter. Inclement weather does cancel walks so look out in your email box for word of any changes! |
