| MOMS Club of West Bloomfield / Orchard Lake, MI SERVICE PROJECTS |
| 2008-2009 Service Projects We sold the cookbooks left-over from 2007-2008 and donated the proceeds to the International MOMS Club Mother-to-Mother Fund. For our other fundraiser, we collected donations of gently used baby and toddler items and sold them at a Mom2Mom Sale. We adopted a needy family for the Christmas holidays and fulfilled many of their wishes through member donated items and items we purchased with money raised at the Mom2Mom sale. 2007-2008 Service Projects Cookbooks Our main service project/fundraiser for this year is a group cookbook. Our cookbook consists of 400 recipes from various members and their families. The cookbooks sell for only $15. We have sold 130 cookbooks as of April 1st 2008. The proceeds from our cookbook sales will aid the work of two local agencies. While different in work and mission, the following organizations have something special in common they have touched the hearts of various members among our group of caring, generous, diverse mothers. Pregnancy Crisis Center : Another Way Pregnancy Center is a non-profit, interdenominational Christian ministry, which offers emotional, practical, and spiritual assistance to females facing unplanned pregnancies. Advocating for the unborn, AWPC counselors present positive alternatives, in a loving and compassionate manner, which allows women to choose life for their babies. Forgotten Harvest : Metro Detroit's only mobile food rescue organization. Forgotten Harvest was formed in 1990 to fight two problems: hunger and waste. Forgotten Harvest currently rescues nearly 8 million pounds of food per year by collecting surplus prepared and perishable food from a variety of sources such as grocery stores, restaurants, caterers, dairies, farmers, wholesale food distributors, and other Health Department-approved sources. This donated food that would otherwise go to waste- is delivered free of charge to emergency food providers in the metro Detroit area. The individuals and families served are as diverse as the community's residents - young and old, from all races and faiths. Coat Drive We collected new and gently used coats in conjunction with the national coat drive, One Warm Coat. Coats were dropped off at Burlington Coat factory on November 10th. From there they found a home with the Rescue Center, downtown Detroit. 2006-2007 Service Project In November and December 2006 the MOMS Club of West Bloomfield / Orchard Lake, MI sponsored a family with 7 children through Orchard Family Services. Thanks to generous donations from our members, as well as Meijer, Whole Foods and Wal-Mart, we provided the children and their parents with a variety of gifts and treats to help make their holidays brighter. |
