| BOOK CLUB Chairmom: Kari G. The Book Club meets once a month in a member's home to discuss the book of the month while the children play together. Some books which have been discussed in the past include: Perfect Match by Jodi Picoult; Waiting by Ha Jin; City of Light by Lauren Belfer; House of Spirits by Isabel Allende; The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon; The Myth of You and Me by Leah Steward; Five Quarters of the Orange by Joann Harris. BIRTHDAY CLUB Chairmom: Amanda M. Interested moms notify the Chairmom and will be assigned to another mom to make a birthday treat for her on her birthday. HALLOWEEN PARTY PLANNERS Chairmoms: Amanda M. & Gretchen J. In October we plan a potluck Halloween party on a Saturday. It is a family event and children come dressed in costumes to play games, do crafts and have fun! HELPING HANDS Chairmom: Amanda M. The Helping Hands service brings assistance to members in our MOMS Club who are in need. �In need� would include times such as after the birth of a child, after surgery or after an unexpected event such as an illness or accident. Different ways of offering assistance include providing meals, light grocery shopping, light cleaning, watching/carpooling older children and watching baby/children to allow mom to sleep, shower, etc. KIDS BOOK CLUB Chairmom: Simone B. This group meets once a month and children will bring their favorite book(s) to be read aloud to the entire group. KIDS COOKING CLUB Chairmom: Simone B. Each month a mom opens her kitchen to the kids to make and then eat their own lunch creations. MOMS NIGHT OUT Chairmoms: Lisa T. & Dena L. Once a month, we have a special �MOMS Night Out� when the members in the club get together without the children (but if you can�t find someone to stay with them, as always, they�re welcome too!). Evenings have included going out for dinner, going to a movie, having a potluck at a member�s home, spa night and special holiday gatherings. The Chairperson is in charge of planning these monthly events. NEWSLETTER AND CALENDAR Chairmom: Kari G. We publish a monthly newsletter, which includes various bits of information such as calendars and special upcoming events. Also included are special articles, announcements and fun facts. NOMINATING COMMITTEE The purpose of the Nominating Committee is to manage the entire election process for the next fiscal year�s Board. It prepares a slate of candidates, via nomination or volunteering, and then presents the slate to all members at the May business meeting. The committee then conducts the election at the June business meeting, including counting the ballots for each position. This is a short-term position, only active during elections in the spring (the Board will seek a Chairperson in March of each year). PLAYGROUPS Chairmom: Jen R. Playgroups meet each week at member's homes, parks, beaches and the library. Depending on the time of year, playgroups may be "General Playgroup" for all ages, or "Wee Little Playgroup" for under 2 and "Little Playgroup" for children over 2 years old. Of course, siblings of other age groups are always welcome. REFERRAL LIST Chairmom: Kari G. In need of a new dentist? A plumber? Someone to resurface your driveway? What better way to find someone than by a personal referral?! We�ve compiled a list of service people or companies used or known by our members. If you are pleased with a service from someone, PLEASE share the name with the Chairperson. This is a great resource for new members who have just moved to the West Bloomfield area, or even for those who have lived here all their lives but need something new. It�s easier to go to someone who has been recommended/approved by a fellow member! SERVICE PROJECTS Chairmom: Jen R. The Chairperson finds national and local charity groups in which our chapter can participate. Activities may include foundation walks, fundraisers, speakers, or any type of activity that would make a difference in someone�s life. The suggestions are presented to the members and the suggestions are voted upon on an as needed basis. SPECIAL EVENTS Chairmoms: Lisa T. & Dena L. The chapter normally schedules between one and three special events per month. These events are open to all chapter members, such as picnics in the park, zoo day, fire station visit, craft day or a museum visit. There are also scheduled family days (typically one per quarter) such as sledding or a beach day, and bigger events like our annual Halloween Party. The Chairperson is responsible for planning these events in conjunction with the Board members. SUPPORT Chairmom: Bree S. The Support service was designed to help members deal more effectively with personal challenges/issues in a confidential manner. It allows members to share their own personal stories or act as a resource for another member who is going through a particularly stressful event (�Moms helping Moms�). Every few months the Chairperson will include articles, books, websites, etc. in the newsletter so members have a resource for where to go if they want help. WALKING CLUB Chairmom: This group will beet once a week at a different mall or park with children in strollers. The Chairperson is responsible for choosing the date, time and location to meet. Eventually, this group may want to focus on healthy living topics (i.e. dieting, exercising, etc.) If you are interested in participating in any of these activities/services or have any ideas to offer, please contact the Chair(s). SPECIAL INTEREST: HOOT/HOWL Contact: Husbands Out of Town / Husbands Out Working Late offers fun get-togethers for moms and kids in the late afternoons. SCRAPBOOKING Contact: Stephanie R. Scrapbookers meet to work on projects and share ideas. They also create new pages for the MOMS Club album. |
