Mistaken for
the rest of the gutter trash, the child was swept away by Sanitation WURCs and sent to an
outdoor landfill. A nearby society of monks used the land-fill for scavenging purposes to
repair their aging machinery and electrical systems. On one such excretion, young Rey was
discovered. They adopted Rey and raised him as one of their own. Forced
to live outside the Metros from religious intolerences, the society welcomed the return to
nature. This underground society was compromised of two separate sects. The men belong to
the Kathras ("way of the fist") and practice a martial art similar to
todays Kyokushinkai Karate. The women are deadly masters of the sword known as the Jathras.
The two live in harmony, their religion based on the belief that men and women, although
vastly different, are absolutely essential to each other for a harmonious life (i.e. Yin
& Yang [not two clans that hate and war with each other]).
Being male, Rey was educated in the way of the Kathras. He was an
exceptional student, the likes of which are rarely seen. At around the age of 10 he began
to observe the women with their swordplay and quickly adapted and learned their style as
well. This is an extremely odd occurrence as very few people have ever mastered both
styles. Something he accomplished by the age of eighteen.
At about twenty he returned to the Metro and began taking several secret
visits into the Sprawl. He had been raised to believe the outside world was all that was
important and pure(which is true in their religion . . . . . the world has been corrupted
and no longer "human"). Becoming enchanted by the harried lifestyle and
fast-paced life of the Sprawlers, he ran away. In the strange world of the Sprawl he
learned of the riches to be had by street fighters (something he was damn good at). After
living a life of constant toil and hardship, he wants it all: money, fame, and women. |
