- Britain was the first country to be industrialized, and it paved the path to a launching of an Industrial Revolution throughout the globe. Scholars suggest that the Industrial Revolution occurred in: France, Belgium, German, and the United States about the middle of the 19th century; Russia and Canada at the turn of the 20th century; in parts of Latin America, the Middle East, Central and southern Asia, and Africa around the middle of the 20th century. As a matter of fact, many third world countries today are just starting or still in the process of an Industrial revolution.
-Due to these late undergoing of the Industrial Revolution of non- European countries, Europe was held complete political and military domination of the world thanks to the great wealth and advancements obtained from their Industrial Revolution. The Islamic powers, though periodically shook by the military forces of neighbouring European States, were far from the helpless hulks they were to become in the nineteenth century caused by the failure to keep up with the technological and wealth expansion of Europe. Africa was overwhelmed with slaves trade by the British and American traders. As for India, the traditional exporter of cotton goods, their mercantile was pressed back as the industrialist vested interests prevailed in Britain. The Chinese empire was the only surviving non-European great power which was not yet industrialized; however the Opium War of 1839 demonstrated that the Chinese empire was helpless in the face of western military and economic aggression made possible by an Industrial Revolution. “The dual revolution was to make European expansion irresistible, though it was also to provide the non-European world with the conditions and equipment for its eventual counter-attack” (Hobsbawm 26). -During mankind's long history of evolvement, the Industrial Revolution is arguably the most influential episode upon the well-being of the human race. "Remarkable economic and social changes had come about in England [during the 18th century], where the Industrial Revolution would in turn transform the economics and societies of Western Europe” (Legacy 243) and ultimately the rest of the world.
-The transformation of industry from handicraft to machine production and assembly lines steam powered engines revolutionized the production of goods and the transportation systems. This great change and reorganization in industry transformed the quality of life for masses of people, and wealth and productivity were enormously increased. This led to enormous reformation in social and cultural structures made the term ‘Industrial Revolution’ as fitting as it can be, since it transformed the way human beings went about working and living.
