Angenlin Mawby and Foster Crampton

 

 

Angenlin Mawby, the daughter of Joe and Susan Mawby, was born March 1866 in Michigan.  She married Foster Crampton, around 1885.  Foster Crampton, the son of John and Eliza Crampton, was born March 1860 in Michigan.  Angenlin was listed with her parents on the 1870 and 1880 Census.  In 1870 she is listed as Mortinaw. 


The 1870 United States Census for Crystal Township, Oceana County, Michigan lists John and Wabgewqua Crampton with their three children. John, age 34 is listed as a farmer, and Wabgewqua, age 30, is listed as keeping house.  The three children were Foster, age 10, James, age 8, and daughter Uannena, age 5.  All members of the family were born in Michigan. 

 

Foster Crampton was listed on the 1880 United States Census in Crystal Township, Oceana County, Michigan, with his parents John and Sarah Crampton.  John Crampton, age 49, was listed as a farmer.  Sarah, age 26, was listed as keeping house.   Foster, age 17, and his brother James, age 16 were both listed as laborers.  Also living with John and Sarah were sons Cobmoos, age 4, and Frank, age 6, and daughter, Lena, age 3.  All members of the family were born in Michigan.   

 

Foster and Ageline Crampton are listed together on the 1900 Census, residing in Eden Township, Mason County, Michigan.  The census shows that Foster, age 40, was born in March 1860, and that Ageline, age 34, was born in March 1866.  Foster’s Indian is listed as Coshuway.  It states that Foster and Ageline had been married for 16 years.  It also states that Ageline, had 8 children, 6 of which were still living.  In 1900 the six children were all living at home with their parents.  The children were: Liddie, age 13, born February 1887, James, age 12, born April 1888, Louis, age 8, born October 1891, Eliza, age 5, born December 1894, Thomas, age 2, born November 1897, and Marthey, age 1 month, born April 1900.  It does not list the birthplace of Foster, but states that his mother was born in Michigan.  Ageline and all of the children were born in Michigan.  It states that their parents were also born in Michigan.  Foster was employed as a farmer.  Everyone in the family was listed as a member of the Ottawa and Chippewa Tribe, living in a fixed dwelling, being taxed, and having aquired citizenship in 1855. 

 

Foster and Angeline Crampton are listed together on the 1910 Census, residing in Eden Township, Mason County, Michigan.  The census lists Foster as 52 and Angeline as 42.  It states that Foster and Angeline had been married for 26 years.  It also states that Angeline, had 12 children, 7 of which were still living.  In 1910 the seven children were all living at home with their parents.  The children were: Lydia, age 22, James, age 21, Louis, age 18, Eliza, age 15, Thomas, age 13, Martha, age 9, and Lina, age 1 month.  All members of the family were born in Michigan.  It states that their parents were also born in Michigan.  Foster was employed as a farmer, James worked as a farm laborer, and Louis was a laborer in the lumber camp.  Everyone in the family was listed as a member of the Ottawa Tribe. It shows that the five oldest children graduated from Harbor Springs Indian School, though the number of years attended is hard to read, and Martha was attending Public School. 

 

Angeline Crampton died on April 14, 1914 in Eden Township, Mason County, Michigan.  Her death was recorded on page 287 or Liber 2 of the Mason County, Death Index.  She is listed as 46 years 4 months and 3 days and her cause of death is listed as Pulmonary Tubercolocis.

 

Foster Crampton is listed on the 1920 United States Census in Eden Township, Mason County, Michigan. He is listed as 60 years old, and is living with his 18 year old daughter Martha.  They are living near his son James and his family.  Foster was employed as a farmer. 

 

Foster died on May 15, 1921 in Eden Township, Mason County, Michigan.  His death is recorded on page 2 of Liber 3 for Eden Township.  He is listed as approximately 70 years old though his exact age is unknown.  He died of Organic Heart Disease.  It lists his occupation as laborer, his father as John Crampton, and his place of birth as Michigan.
