With the release date of 50 Cents new album approaching us fast, I thought I should discuss the build up to Curtis and how it will hold up against his previous two albums.

There's no doubt about it, 50 is an absolute monster in the rap game. When he releases music, people listen. However the build up to Curtis has been different compared to his previous two releases on Shady / Aftermath. Get Rich Or Die Tryin' and The Massacre were released with massively successful singles, In Da Club and Candy Shop were huge singles both commercially and to his loyal fan base. Unfortunately the lead single from Curtis has been received with mixed reviews. Although many praised the middle eastern themed beat and 50's liquid like flow, it didn't create the buzz that perhaps In Da Club or even Candy Shop did. Although it did have people going hahahaha a lot.

50 realised this and responded by releasing more singles from the album, including Amusement Park and Fully Loaded Clip. Amusement Park is one for the ladies and again was received in a lukewarm fashion, and his performance at the BET Awards, or rather half a performance, got all the attention for the wrong reasons. Fully Loaded Clip was straight gutter, perhaps too gutter to be a single, produced by Havoc none the less.

After the release of these singles 50 decided to delay the album. Now he claims he done this so he could release the album simultaneously worldwide, but I think 50's getting a bit twitchy. With three singles released and people still raising their eyebrows, 50 probably thought he needed to get something else out there to get people talking again. The album release date was delayed until September 10th / 11th. Since then 50 has released yet more singles including I Get Money which is reminiscent of Cassidy's I'ma Hustla. Now this track in my opinion is a great a track, great beat with a catchy hook. It's had exactly the desired effect, people are talking! Other tracks released include AYO Technology featuring Timbo and Justin Timberlake.

These days its very rare to see an artist release nearly six singles before an album, but that's the route 50's taken. There's no doubt that 50's third outing on Shady / Aftermath is going to sell regardless, simply because he's a household name. I'll most definitely be looking out for it, and I'm sure everyone else will too, even those who claim they never listen to 50, and with that a bid farewell! Until next time.

Peace.

Gurjit.
