SKILLS

A key part of every character, and one of the largest influences on what makes the characyer unique, is the skills that he/she knows. Skills are devided into two categories: Weapon Skills and Non-Weapon Skills. Depending on the race, certain numbers of skill points are given to each category.

After 20 days of playing, a character will gain 1 extra Weapon and 1 extra Non-Weapon skill point. It is up to the character to keep track of this. You may spend multiple points on many skills, and this is encouraged to enhance your skills. The point spending is listed below.

In addition to the Skill Points given, when you start out, you will also receive 2 Profession Points. These must be used on one profession, but otherwise work just like Non-Weapon Points.

WEAPON SKILLS

No weapon skills will be listed here, as the weapons they are used for are listed elsewhere. All of the weapons in the Weapons section count as weapons, as well as the Weapon Type Items. Also, skill points given to Professions fit in this category, though some extra profession points are given when creating a character.

NON-WEAPON SKILLS

Non-Weapon Skills are either listed below or are listed as Non-Weapon types in the Items section.

RUNNING: Races: All     Max. Level: 3

Running is a helpful skill for both Battle and Combat, or just normal circumstances. If one wants to enter a race at one of the festivals, this skill is a must. The higher the level, the faster the runner.

SWIMMING: Races: Terminians, Ikana, Gerudo, Zora     Max. Level: 3

Swimming is great for the races other than Zora (Zora naturally know this), especially when in wet areas. The higher the level, the faster the swimmer.

BATTLE EVASIVENESS: Races: All     Max. Level: 1

This skill has little use other than to raise your Evasiveness in Battle. However, these feats of dexterity can sometimes be used to amuse people.

HORSE RIDING: Races: Terminians, Ikana, Gerudo     Max. Level: 3

A very helpful skill for the humans, as it allows them to find horses. However, horse (at the beginning of the game) are only found at the Gorman Track, so some will need to be captured if the other races with to use them. A Level 2 horse rider is faster than Level 1, and Level 2 horses can leap fences and race more quickly. A Level 3 horse rider is faster than even Level 2.

DIVING: Races: Terminians, Ikana, Gerudo, Zora     Max. Level: 3

Diving skills allow the skillholder to dive and swim underwater, the length of time depending on the level: 25 seconds for Level 1, 50 seconds for Level 2, and 2 minutes for Level 3. Zoras naturally can dive.

CLIMBING: Races: All     Max. Level: 3

Climbing allows the user to go up very steep surfaces. The higher the Level, the faster the climber can climb and the steeper the climb may be. Only Level 3 skillholders can go straight up.

JUMPING: Races: All     Max. Level: 3

Characters with this skill can jump much further than characters without it. The higher the Level, the farther the jump. These jumps cannot be incredibly long, such as leaping over the Ikana River, even at Level 3.

BOAT MAKING: Races: All     Max. Level: 3

Boat Making is a skill quite beneficial to most races, especially the Gorons and Deku. The higher the level, the more skill the boatmaker has, and the finer ships they can make. A Level 1 boatmaker can make a boat to hold 4 people, Level 2 can make one for 8, and Level 3 can make a boat that holds 16 people.

ILLUSION CREATION: Races: All     Max. Level: 4

This skill is very hard to learn, and thus requires 2 Skill points to reach Level 1. This art allows you to create illusions that can only be detected with the Lens of Truth. A Level 1 Illusion maker can create basic illusions, such as a wall or door where there is none. A Level 2 Illusion creator can make large illusion, such as a pit or chasm where there is none. Level 3 Illusion creators can make objects illusions, and Level 4 can create human illusions (known as Phantoms), that can move in a predetermined pattern. These illusions will fool most people, and feel real to the touch. Illusion will last until the creator dispels them or if two Level 3-4 Illusion Creators know of the illusion and focus their energies for 30 minutes (per Level of the original creator) to dispel it. Illusion Creators can create up to two times their Illusion Creator level in illusion (for example, a Level 2 Illusion Creator can create 4 at a time).

UNDEAD CONTROL: Races: Ikana     Max. Level: 4

The Ikana have the special ability to control the undead. This is the Ikana's main form of attack. However, mastering control of the Undead is difficult and thus requires 2 Skill points spent to get to Level 1. The undead creatures controlled are as follows (it is unknown how to get the last two, meaning you cannot get them... yet):

The Undead cannot learn any Skills. However, for each extra Non-Weapon skill point you spend on them, you can incease their Evasiveness Score by 1 (the maximum amount you can increase is the number that the original ES is added by... for example, the maximum number of times you can increase a Garo's ES is 5, a Poe's is 8, and so on). In battle, the undead float up walls instead of using hookshots, but it has the same effect. Reaching the wall is the same for the undead as for any character. Undead can wear armor. If hit with a Light Arrow (a successful hit), the undead creature is automatically killed and cannot be revived for 10 days. The normal revival time for an undead character is 3 days.

THEFT: Races: All Max. Level: 3

Theft is an interesting skill, and is a decent source of income for those that don't want to work and/or want a bit of a challenge. Theft includes pickpocketing, or just plain stealing. Through pickpocketing, the thief can take small items (such as a few arrows, a bomb, or a short bow) without the owner noticing. However, there is always a chance that he will notice. When an attempt is made, a Level 1 pickpocketer much roll a 1 or lower, a Level 2 a 2 or lower, and a Level 3 a 4 or lower. To steal something through plain stealing, a die roll is made. If the thief gets double their Level # or lower on the die, they snatch the item. However, the person who is thieved is aware of this and may retaliate, though the thief has is a short distance ahead. This is a crime in most societies, and can result in serious penalties. Most thieves sell the stolen to shops, but regular shops don't accept the items most often, for they could get in trouble as well. There are several special shops, such as Clock Town's Curiosity Shop, that sells tolen goods. Since they are stolen, they are usually found at a discount price. Rare items, however, usually have very high prices.

DANCING: Races: All Max. Level: 3

Dancing is a skill used simply for entertainment. Dancing competitions are often held in many societies, and are usually quite popular. The higher the level, the better the dancer.

ANIMAL TRAINING: Races: All Max. Level: 3

Animal Training allows the skillholder to train certain animals (either dogs, cuccos, or fish) into doing simple (though usually astounding for the creature) tricks. This is purely for entertainment, and requires a lot of time spent with the animal. The higher the level, the better and more amazing the tricks are.

NON-WEAPON COMBAT: Races: All Max. Level: 4

Non-Weapon Combat is, of course, fighting without a weapon (or in other words, your hands). While Hylian Deku (spin attack), Goron (punch) and Zora (punch) naturally have a Level 1 skill at this, the humans do not. Fighting without a weapon is just like with one, but you won't get any extra ES for having weapon. Also, you'll need to get 3 normal fatal blows to get a non-weapon fatal blow.

COMBAT FORESIGHT: Races: Deku, Zora, Goron Max. Level: 3

The non-human races have the potential to slightly foresee the attacks of their opponents in Combat. This foreseeing is minute and cannot be used very well, but it is helpful enough to raise the ES of the skillholder by +1 or +2.
