he Philippines to the World Entertainment
Foundation, Inc., or PWEFI, is a non-profit
organization which was established in July 1997 by a
group composed mostly of overseas Filipinos and
former migrant workers.

PWEFI's primary objective is to utilize the power of
media and entertainment in promoting the welfare and
well-being of overseas Filipinos, as well as promoting
the Philippines.  Right after its incorporation with the Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) in 1997, PWEFI's immediate goal was to bring the Philippine Centennial spirit to Filipinos in Saudi Arabia and to ensure the participation of overseas Filipinos in the Grand Centennial Parade at the Luneta on June 12, 1998.

In line with this objective, therefore, the Foundation launched in March 1998 three projects:  the "Proudly Filipino" and "A Flag in Every OCW Home" campaigns, and
                                                               the Philippine Centennial Cup Team
                                                               Tennis & Bowling Tournaments
which were sponsored by no less
                                                               than then-President Fidel V. Ramos
                                                               and the Philippine Centennial
                                                               Commission (PCC).

                                                               PWEFI also spearheaded the signa-
ture campaign that demanded for the
                                                               installation of an air-conditioning
                                                               system at the POEA's  Balik-
Manggagawa area for the comfort of vacationing OFWs who go there to process their OECs (Overseas Employment Certificates).  As a result, the entire area went through massive renovation and was relaunched in October 1998 as a one-stop processing center.

In addition to this, the Founda-
tion was one of the many OFW
organizations that opposed the
mandatory $25 OWWA Pass-
book.  Likewise, it has written
Malacanang several times since
the term of President Ramos
regarding the Absentee Voting
Bill.

The biggest feather on its cap, however, was the suc-
cess of Project OFW 2000 - a worldwide signature
campaign that eventually led to the Presidential decla-
ration of 2000 as The Year of Overseas Filipino
Workers.  For more information about this, please log

OFW 2000, the web version of a special com-
memorative publication issued by PWEFI in celebration
                                      of the special year.

                                      In 2001, PWEFI co-produced the country's most
                                      prestigious modeling competition,
BODYSHOTS, with
the Fashion Designers Association of the
                                      Philippines (FDAP).

Aside from the search for Ginoo at Binibini ng Overseas Filipinos 2002, PWEFI has a lot of other projects up its sleeves.  Their realization and success will, of course, depend much on the support not only of sponsors but of overseas Filipinos themselves.

PWEFI's motto, after all, is
"giving overseas Filipinos a face & a voice and striving to make a difference in their lives."
