Megaman X has the most confusing and mysterious storylines. Go figure. It appears that Capcom keeps changing things (i.e. the ending in x5 that continues onto x6 says 3 years later, but capcom decided to change it to 3 WEEKS later).
But the question is: is X really Megaman? We can see the resemblance, and we can see the personality, but the answer is still unclear. Obviously, we know he was created by Dr. Light as the first reploid to make his own decisions. But is there more to it? Dr. Light knew that if the world was in danger when he died, X would have to fill in Megaman's shoes (but what happened to Megaman?) Apparently, Dr. Light IS alive, since he is in holograph form and communicates with X and Zero on their travels to save the world.
The X series has become a legend among the world of Megaman, intertwining with the story from Megaman Classic, the second in the entire series. There are many questions, but it may take time for the answers to unfold.
