Naoko Takeuchi is the creator of the popular and loved anime Sailor Moon. She was born March 15 1967 in Kofu City and later graduated from Kyoritsu University with a degree in chemistry in 1986. She has created several other award winning mangas for the monthly magazine Nakayoshi aimed at pre-teen and teenage girls. Her manga series was created in 1986 and it was called "Love Call". This was her first attempt at a manga series, and when it won nakayoshi's new artist award, she was encouraged to keep writng.

In 1991, she dreamt up a story about female heroine named Code Name wa Sailor V for Nakayoshi's sister publication Run-Run magazine. It was an sucess and she was inspired to create a even more elaborate and detailed manga which she named Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon. Sailor V from the original manga now played second fiddle to the new main character, Sailor Moon.

It debuted in Nakayoshi in February of 1992 and was a instant hit with girls everywhere. The rest is history. Sailor Moon went on to become one of the most popular animes ever created. It was released as a animated TV series, which ran for 200 episodes in 5 seasons. The show was translated into a number of languages, including spanish, french, and english. There were 18 volumes of Sailor Moon manga books and three feature films, as well as a few more television specials. It was even transformed into a live stage musical, commonly known as "Sera-Myu". It resembles a broadway musical and each season, a different story is done. Sera-Myu is currently still running. The Sailor Moon television show and manga ended in February of 1997. Reportedly, around the time of the show's ending, naoko Takeuchi and Sailor Moon's publisher, Kodansha were having major disagreements about the handling of the series which may have been a main cause of the show's ending.

In January of 1996, she married Yoshihiro Togashi, the creator of the popular manga series Yu Yu Hakusho. Ms. Takeuchi is not only a wonderful artist, but a kind soul as well. After the Kobe earthquake, she helped to raise funds for the victims by drawing caricatures of people and using them as models for small parts in her comic books.

In an interview conducted in 1992, Naoko Takeuchi stated rather shyly that she loved men who looked good in tuxedos and therefore, her favorite Sailor Moon character was Tuxedo Mask. She also said that she modeled Sailor Moon after herself a bit and Serena/Usagi was the character most like her and Haruka/Sailor Uranus is the character most different from her.
