In
response to the increasing social and political turbulence of her
time, artist and photographer Emily Jean emphasizes the persistence
of nature’s beauty and its strength to prevail above the negative.
Her photography reflects her unique visions of the world and through
the use of technology Jean manages to recreate not only the image,
but her emotions felt while capturing it on camera.
Emily
Jean’s photography is all digital and most pieces are printed
by Jean herself using her home computer and a series of computer-art
programs. Sometimes a photograph may be enhanced or altered on the
computer to ensure the print will be the same as the initial visual
intention. Each photograph goes through the process of being printed,
cut, mounted and framed by hand, so be assured that no two pieces
are ever exactly alike. Emily believes in the “happy accident”-
a term she uses to describe how sometimes the computer or printer
will contribute something unexpected to her artwork and make the
piece into something entirely unplanned for and even more beautiful.
Art
serves to reflect, teach, illustrate, relate or even act as a symbol
of remembrance of its creator. Emily firmly believes this to be
the driving force behind her artwork and as a result her life experiences
are the substance of most pieces. She believes history can be recorded
and remembered in many ways and her personal favorite of them all
is art. Through her photography, Emily Jean documents the world
as she sees it through the lens of a digital camera.
“If you ever hear
a song and it reminds you of a particular time in your life…
then you have experienced exactly what I am trying to accomplish
with my music.”
