DISAPPOINTMENT

The Hon. Dr, Earl Page, M. P., Minister for Commerce, has received the following letter from Mr. H. J. Lachlan, of the Prime Minister's Department:-

"Further to my letter of 19 August 1937, relative to the development of alunite deposits of Bullahdelah, N. S. W., I desire to inform you that I have been in touch with the Electrolytic Zinc Company of Australia Ltd., which is co-operating with the British Aluminium Company in connection with the production of aluminium in Australia, with a view to ascertaining whether the Company would be interested in the deposits at Bullahdelah.

The Company states, however, that, for technical reasons, bauxite is always used for aluminium production in preference to alunite provided that it is obtainable at an economically competitive price.

The Company is able to do this and will for the present, restrict its operations to the use of bauxite, but the possibilities of the Bullahdelah deposits will be kept in mind for future reference."
