Well, due to a lack of motivation and warm weather, the CNC project has switched to plan "B".
Plan "B" is to build the machine out of MDF from a set of plans avaliable on cnczone.com. The plans were drawn up by a contributor to the "zone" whose forum id is Jgro. The machine is a gantry style machine with a good size capacity.
Work has progressed pretty well. I've been at it for about a week now with pretty good results, I think.
I have learned one thing already. MDF is not a lot of fun to work with. It has advantages, smooth, flat, free of voids and knots, etc. But the dust! It also doesn't seem to play nice with hole saws. It seemed like the fibers instantly plugged up the teeth in the hole saw and began the burning process. You may notice that some of the larger holes in the pictures have a darker color to them...
