| True to form, throughout the final stages of the delivery, I still managed to focus on having either Martin or me capturing the entire event in pictures (Note: Mary Helen could not even resist to personally take some pictures of the two physicians while they were stitching up some of her tearing after the delivery. How crazy is that? Well, we were used to a lot from watching Maternity Ward for months before our big day). At one point I had to be repeatedly reminded that delivering the baby was not the end of the adventure- I still had to push and deliver the placenta as well. During the entire hospital stay, I was amazed at the amount of energy that I still had- I even outlasted Martin! The power of adrenaline Post delivery, Coby had to be placed in a step-down nursery instead of our room because he had caught a low grade fever from his Mama. This was extremely sad for us since we really wanted to have him spend the time with us. Nevertheless, we were able to visit him very often. As a matter of fact, the nurses always had to look for us in the nursery since we spent as little time as possible in our room. We are so very happy and thrilled with our little guy. We cant help but smile all day!! The First Few Days At Home The first few days were extremely disjointed and hectic. While Coby arrived early our home is a different story as many of you know. Instead of moving in March as we had been told we actually did not get the green light until the day after the release from the hospital. In other words, we had just had our first child and now we had to move on the fourth day of his life. Not fun to say the least. As one friend put it: You should have named him Jesus because like Mary and Josef you are living in a stable. Martin was frantic and filled with anxiety with the task at hand of unpacking without my help. Thank goodness, my brother was available to help for a couple of days and the boxes were quickly unpacked (although we have yet to finish putting everything away). It is truly amazing at the amount of things that we have managed to acquire that we dont even recall having! Martin has vowed to never move again! Apart from all the packing and unpacking it also turned out that our supposedly ready condo was not all that ready after all. To give you an idea: The shower flooded the bathroom, the dishwasher did the same in the kitchen, the washing machine and the dryer did not work, neither did the hood over the stove causing all alarms to go off when we made French toast on the first morning Some of this has bee fixed by now but there is still a ways to go. You can imagine that there was obviously no way to access the Internet which is part of the reason why you get this update so late. |
