| RESTORATION PAGE 4!!! (Hopefully the last one.....) |
| 01/02/03: Right then, update time. Me dad and myself have been blitzing the Escort for the past week. Last update i left you guys with the news that some components had been steam cleaned. Well, i shall take you through the progress in sections... First of all, the brakes. The servo was stripped down to component form to make it easier to paint. The servo mount was seperated from the servo itself, and then the servo was seperated from the master cylinder. The servo and mounting bracket were bare metaled and painted gloss black, and the master cylinder was rubbed down and painted silver. The fluid resevoir was cleaned up to look like new with white spirit/ thinners/ TFR e.t.c, and the cap was completey stripped down to get rid of all traces of dirt. The whole unit was then assembled, along with new hose clips, bolts e.t.c and the aluminium connecting rod that connects the hose from the inlet manifold to the servo was polished up.It was refitted to the car, along with new mounting bolts. Next, we bought a roll of copper brake pipe, some new brake unions, and made up all new brake pipes. The results can be seen in the pictures.. Next, the gearbox. This has simply been painted since it was cleaned, and is ready to go in. Next the engine....Firstly, the engine block was painted black and all 3 core plugs replaced. These were put in after it was painted, to make them stand out. Next, the crank was fitted along with all new bearings, the pistons cleaned and fitted with new rings, and a new fast road cam fitted(Kent BCF2), along with all new followers e.t.c. A new timing chain was put on, and the front and rear covers were cleaned up and put on. The flywheel was fitted, which was then followed by the sump. That just leaves the ancillaries to paint tonight and fit tomorrow. The cylinder head came back yesterday from having hardened valve seats fitted, and we made a start at lapping the valves in last night, although it was getting late(11pm) so we only got 3 done before calling it a day. The rest will be done tonight, along with fitting the valve springs and paining the head(silver). Then tomorrow, the engine will be finished apart from an oil pump and a K&N filter, as these are the last things i have to buy :-) Lastly are the odds and sods... The radiator has been painted, along with the rocker cover, the starter motor e.t.c-some of these can be seen in the pccies below.Hope you like them:-) Parts needed-K&N air filter Oil pump Service items for engine Parts left to paint- X-member Steering coupling strut top mounts Exhaust manifold underneath of bonnet and hinges cylinder head Battery clamp Other jobs- Fit engine and gearbox after finishing engine build Fit washer jet assembly |
