RESTORATION PAGE 5
07/02/03: Hi all. A good bit of progress to report today. Last Sunday i built the engine up fully, as my cam Kit had been delivered, and my cylinder head was finished and back from the engineers. I decided to paint the cylinder head silver and leave the front cover bare alloy, so that they stood out from the block. While my dad was off work, he painted the cylinder head for me, so it allowed me to crack on and get it built. Its just lacking an oil pump and air filter now.Pictures can be seen below.Sunday will be an exciting day for me, as the gearbox and engine will be going in, along with the propshaft, starter motor and radiator e.t.c. My car is nearly finished-How good is that!!!
I never thought id get this far and may i say it, this level of finish. My car Will be going back on the road, and soon!!!
COV's new heart-arrrrrrrrr bless!!!

08/02/03: Forgot to mention that yesterday i painted the x-member, steering rod and coupling in readiness for putting the engine in on sunday. Also got some VHT(very high temperature) paint for the manifold and gave that a few coats. Whole car is now ready for action tomorrow.Have got engine crane, clutch alignment tool and all new hose clips for the cooling system.Cant wait!!!Progress tomorrow and maybe some photos of my car 99% finished!!!
16/03/03: Hi all, very sorry for leaving you on a cliffhanger, just havnt got round to updating this site for over a month. My deepest aplogies! Right then, back to the Escy....

Well, as previously said, the very next day, i did indeed get everything back in, ie. engine, gearbox, propshaft e.t.c, and there was no real probems, apart from trying not to scratch any paint!Im glad to report that no scratches were made. This left me with the brakes to bleed, a throttle bracket to fabricate, an air filter and oil pump to buy, the washer system to fit, the servo to connect, and a couple of other fiddly little things. First up, a K&N air filter was purchased, along with an Oil pump, and these were fitted...it was then time for the big start up....turning the key returned no turning over of the starter, so a new starter solenoid was purchased, and this cured the problem. Next, the engine was turned over with the plugs out to get oil pressure up, and when this finally happened, the plugs were refitted and the big moment came.....Unfortunatly, it wouldnt start, just a few fluffs and spits, but nothing in a row. Then, the timing was checked and reset, and she fired into life!!!!!straight away the revs were taken upto 2500 rpm to run the cam in for 20 mins...it was horrible watching it scream its tits off, but it had to be done....

So, with that out of the way, a throttle bracket was made by my dad, and it looks bang on original-thanks dad!!!, the servo was connected up, the brakes bled, and the washer system fitted, and then!!!!!!! i'd realised id finished!!!!  I must admit that it crept up on me, and i had the biggest grin when i realised....

So, half a year after i started, i now have an engine bay to be proud of, and an Escort that is a hell of a lot quicker than it was before. Whats more, its been done on a budget of roughly 150 per month, so you realise how hard its been for me.

Still, i can thouroughly recomend taking your Escort off the road during the winter, as it keeps all of the salt away, and it makes the Escy ready for the show season!!! Infact, ive decided that, once again, it will be coming off the road again next winter, this time for an interior restoration(painted floor, new seats, RS door cards e.t.c...) and to get rid of the vinyl roof. Will only have to tax it for 6 months!!!!;-) Progress will now go back to the MY ESCY page, but please check back soon for a picture of the final article, with the K&N filter in place and the washer system fitted. BYE BYE!!!!
                ENGINE BAY RESTO FINISHED!!!!!!!
piccies soon i promise!!!
