November 2004

Wally ZL1VWM hosted the November AK ATV Group meeting at his house in Ponsonby.
NASA TV received from a satllite in digital format was demonstrated.
Quentin ZL1QF reported that the new channel 39 output filter had been ordered from Italy. When it arrives, a major upgrade of the ZL1BQ ATV repeater will take place. A BARCO modulator will be used in place of the Philips equipment and the output power of the transmitter increased.
A new 23cm FMTV receiver having synthasized tuning is to be fitted.
The Whitford license has now be received after a tortuous application procedure that's taken years. The new pole is still under action.
September 2004

Ian ZL1VFO hosted the September meeting at his Howick QTH.
Auckland ATV Interest Group members attended during the afternoon, with Henry ZL1AAN making some progress with his 23cm ATV TX display board.
Licenses are still being sought for SHF ATV repeater projects through NZART FMTAG & AK VHF Group. Progress is very slow on obtaining a new pole for the Whitford Repeater site.
August 2004

Andrew ZL2ALW hosted the August meeting at his Titirangi QTH. He demonstrated his studio set-up transmitting through a 2.4 GHz link to the lounge. The ZL1BQ Channel 39 ATV repeater was received in colour with the aerial Andrew has erected. He is collecting interesting material from ATVers to transmit through ZL1BQ or to be put on DVD. A DVD player is proposed for instalation at ZL1BQ

Auckland ATV Interest Group members attended during the afternoon. Apologies were received from Henry ZL1AAN. The latest CQ-TV magazine from the BATC was available to borrow from Michael ZL1ABS.

Wally ZL1VWM hosted the July meeting at his Ponsonby QTH. He demonstrated his station transmitting through the ZL1BQ Channel 39 ATV repeater with the input frequency switched to 1250 MHz. He says this has advantages compared with the normal 1280 MHz input frequency. He often transmits interesting material on science & technology to other ATVers through ZL1BQ.

Most of the Auckland ATV Interest Group members attended during the afternoon.
The possibility of a TBC unit for ZL1BQ was discussed. A test of a TBC may be carried out by ZL1QF.
A pole needs to be obtained for Whitford before much of the equipment can be restored to operation. The damaged channel 39 receive aerial has been repaired by Ken ZL1TD. Tim ZL1TN is closely monitoring the licensing issues and will ensure that the needed paperwork comes through the "red tape" system OK.

Henry ZL1AAN hosted the June meeting at his house in Devonport. ATV was received from Wally ZL1VWM. Tim has upgarded from ZL3VTV to ZL1TN, becoming a fully fledged Amateur operator at last. Now that the CW test has been abolished many amateurs are changing their callsigns & getting permanent QSL cards printed.
The Whitford ATV repeater is still non-operational. New equipment has been constructed by Grant Taylor ZL1WTT.
Andrew Barnett ZL2ALW is organising a 23cm FMTV Transmitter building & testing session. The place & time are yet to be determined, however.

A BBQ & meeting hosted by Tim ZL3VTV took place. The Whitford ATV repeater is down at the time of writing.

The meeting was held by Quentin ZL1QF at Milford. Many of the ATV Group members had a good time working on their new projects.
Grant ZL1WTT brought the new 20 Watt amplifier for the Whitford 23cm FMATV Repeater.
Bruce ZL1WB reports that the Whangarei ATV Repeater and is on air now.
An 8 Watt amplifier using BLV103 transistors is being constructed for Whangarei by Grant ZL1WTT.

Holiday time in New Zealand. Some intermittant activity to see on the Auckland ATV Repeaters. Other times the regular Teletext pages are displayed in rotation.

The meeting was held by Michaael ZL1ABS at Albany. Many of the ATV Group members had a good time looking at new projects.
Andrew ZL2ALW has taken over the ATV Group tape library and is converting the material from VHS to CD Rom with MPEG format.
Grant ZL1WTT has built a new 20 Watt amplifier for the Whitford 23cm FMATV Repeater.
Bruce ZL1WB has purchased the Channel 39 exciter box for the Whangarei ATV Repeater and is planning to get this repeater on air this year.
An 8 Watt amplifier using BLV103 transistors is being constructed for Whangarei by Grant ZL1WTT.
Henry ZL1AAN has built one of the new 23cm FMTV transmitters using PCBs designed by Grant ZL1WTT and Keith ZL1BQE. This transmitter features microprocessor control, a LCD display and many features implented in software. It is a real tenological upgrade in FMTV transmitters in Auckland.
