David Eves
David Eves, a man who rarely travels too far from his car, is prepared to undertake a parallel ride leaving Edinburgh at the same time the main group leaves Mizzen Head. He hopes to reach John O'Groats at the same time the group reaches Malin Head (4 days later) . His wife has only agreed to this desperate attempt to appear fit now that his full pension has been confirmed. She expects to hear from him stranded near Inverness pleading for a lift home. Paul Hackett
Originally from Beragh, County Tyrone. Works in an architectural practice in Belfast. Goes on long solo cycle tours, e.g. as far as Beragh. When cycling is prone to pointing out the megaliths he has designed. |

Jim Hamilton
Originally from Belfast. Long-term member of Phoenix Cycling Club. Works as a senior research officer in the Chemistry department at Queen's University and recently graduated with yet another degree. Doing this as a rest cure after all that work. Has promised performance enhancing chemicals (C2H5OH). |

Seamus McAleer
Originally from Beragh, County Tyrone. Tells heroic yarns of cycling as a student. If all the yarns were true (like going round France in an afternoon) then it's a wonder he ever qualified to work as an oncologist in Belfast. Is allegedly the organiser of this outing and will claim all credit but deny all blame. |
|
Mary McKee
Originally from Randalstown. Works as a probation officer and has been brought along to keep the rowdies in order (especially Gerry Quigg). Also an accomplished racing cyclist. Plays the traditional violin and knows the definition of a gentlewoman (someone who knows how to play a traditional violin.....but doesn't). |
|
Jim Mulholland
Originally from Belfast, now living in Glenavy. Education and Welfare Officer for the Belfast Education and Library Board - in other words, lots of time to cycle. Has done every Maracycle and Bordertrek ever, often accompanied by his kids, who are accomplished cyclists in their own right. |
|
Gerry Quigg
Originally from the suburbs of Garvagh city. A teacher on holiday (I thought they all went to France for two months). I have seen worse cyclists than Gerry, but I can't remember when. (Jealousy speaking) |
|
Ciaran Rafferty
A Belfast man through and through. Works as a consultant anaesthetist in the Royal Victoria Hospital. Part of a famous cycling family (his wife Sheila is an Irish champion and his two boys can do stunts on their little bikes) so he ought to be a brilliant cyclist. Also part of a famous drinking family......... |
|
Billy Smyth
Originally from Belfast. A cycling pensioner who was one of the first members of Phoenix Cycling Club. Used to do the Maracycle both ways in one day (200 miles). This run will hardly get him warmed up. Designated "Captain on the Road" for this outing and has already organised a series of gruelling training runs (Carlingford for lunch, etc). |
