herb onion bread

i tried this on a whim and it was really good.  the best part is that there is no kneading!

 

INGREDIENTS

flour   3 1/4 cup  
yeast   2 pkgs  
sugar   2 tbsp  
salt   1 tsp  
sage   1/2 tsp  
rosemary   1/2 tsp, crushed  
thyme   1/4 tsp ground  
butter   1/4 cup  
onion   1 cup, chopped  
warm water   1 1/4 cup  
egg   1  

 

METHOD

  • in large mixer bowl combine 1 1/2 cups flour, yeast, salt, sage, rosemary and thyme

  • sauté onion in butter until golden brown.  add to flour mixture

  • add water and eggs

  • blend at low speed until moistened

  • beat 3 minutes at medium

  • by hand gradually stir in remaining flour to make stiff batter

  • spoon into greased 2 quart casserole

  • cover and let rise in warm place, about 1 hour

  • bake at 375 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes

NOTES

  • next time I make this, I'm going to sauté a couple cloves of garlic along with the onions.  I think it would make this a super delicious, easy bread!
