for gently and lovingly. Like anything in life, the more care
shown, the greater the reward. A hat not boxed shows poor
breeding and lack of sensitivity!! " (missmary)

***Would-be members register as members of our chapter,
Red Roses Chapter,
at the National Office in California. You may do so online,
by phone or by mail, using the chapter ID
that is on our chapter charter certificate.
Even if you opt for chapter-only membership, having
your member information will help The Red Hat Society
to know who our members are.
The more members we can count,
the more power the Red Hat Society has in securing
member benefits from outside companies.
Please note that our member information is kept private.

"Of course, you can put a hat you wear often on an hat
stand in your bedroom or dressing room, even your family room,
kitchen, or living room. However, be sure you feather dust this daily.
Dust eats up hats." (missmary)

Suggestion: Red Roses take bubble baths for as long as possible.
My Mom had to stop when she got in her 70’s and
It was something she really missed. Showers on stools
After that, gurls….”(missmary)
"If you have patience and time, you can find fabulous
red hat items in doing vintage shopping. Yard sales are good –
when you go to a yard sale, ASK. She may have something inside
she hasn’t put out!!
Go for the unique and original for a retro look –
you can cover some damage with new ribbons or flowers..."

Q. Where can I find a red hat?
Q. Does my outfit have to be entirely purple?
A. Many chapters insist on it while some chapters may be more lenient. In
some chapters, a purple blouse with a black or red skirt or pair of pants
can work. Some wear purple T-shirts with jeans while others wear purple
dresses with purple nylons, purple boas and purple shoes, etc., etc. Do what
you think is the most fun.
Q. What kinds of events do chapters usually have?
A. Lunches and tea parties are quite popular. Some chapters like to go to
the movies or to a play. Some also attend home tours and/or charity events
in full regalia (that is, red hats and purple clothing). You can plan any
activity you wish. Groups have sleepovers, swim parties, spa days... one
group chartered a bus and went to see an Elvis impersonator!
Q. How often should the chapter meet?
A. Most chapters meet monthly. But, again, as Queen of your own chapter, you
determine the frequency of your meetings.
Q. How many members may I have in my chapter?
A. Suggested chapter size is somewhere around 20 women. We find that
chapters larger than 20 frequently have trouble making reservations at
restaurants and organizing events. However, you may include as many women in
your chapter as you wish.
Annual chapter-only memberships for 20 women are included in your chapter
registration package. Additional chapter-only membership cards are $1.00
apiece.
Your chapter members wishing to have Purple Perks benefits may enroll online
or by phone for $18 a year.
If your chapter gets too big, encourage the overflow to start another group.
You can still get the chapters together for larger events.
Q. How should I plan chapter events?
A. However you desire. In many chapters, each member takes her turn to plan
an event and sends out invitations, and makes the reservation.
Q. I'm not fifty yet, but I like to play dress-up too. How can I get
involved?
A. We allow junior postulates conditional membership if they will agree to
wear pink hats and lavendar clothing, exchanging them for red and purple
only after having THE birthday. We like to refer to this ceremony as a
Reduation! Click here to learn more about becoming a Pink Hatter.
Q. Should we choose officers?
A. If you like. In the Founding Chapter, they appoint themselves to any
office they choose, whenever the mood strikes. Some of their officers are:
1. Queen Mother (Hey, it was her idea) Ours is Queen Mary, “Queen Mum”
2. Vice-Mother
3. Hysterian — (yes, we know it's historian) keeps a scrapbook of group
functions. Various members bring cameras to help with documentation.
4. Sergeant-in-gloves— would ensure proper behavior if she could decide what
that would be.
5. Anti-Parliamentarian — makes sure no one makes any rules.
6. Barristress — the resident attorney.
7. E-mail female — handles chapter online communications.
Any office you can think of is OK. We encourage creativity.

A. We have several red hats and hat adornments on sale right now in the
Imperium — from the most basic to the most elaborate. You may like one of
these, or you may go out and find your own. Red hats now seem to be
everywhere we look so it shouldn't be too hard to find one! If you're
feeling especially creative, we recommend antique stores, thrift stores and
garage sales.
