- Air
pollution adversely affect the health of people (esp. people have heart
disease or asthma.)
- Sulphur
dioxide can be dissolved in rain and form acid rain. This rain can corrode
building or destroy the natural vegetation.
- Causing
smog(=smoke and fog) and mist in the air. These reduce the visibility for
aircraft and ships. Accidents may occur easily.
- The
heat and carbon dioxide lead to the greenhouse effect, i.e. general
increase in temperature. (it will be shown on the following page)

Measure on people
On
the road:
--avoid travel by your private car, instead of using public
transport
-- switch off engine while waiting
At
home:
-- switch off domestic appliances while it is not used and use the
energy efficient domestic appliances (reduce the air pollution from
power stations)
-- avoid using hair
sprays,furniture polish,deodorants,etc.
-- avoid smoking
Industry:
--use clean technology(which use minimum electricity, fuel and
solvents)
--use low solvent degreasers
Measure on the
government
1)
Planning
-- power stations are build up at the open areas, the
winds help disperse the pollutants away from the densely populated
areas.
-- industry and
residential zones are separated in new towns.
2)
Legislation
-- Air Pollution Control Regulation are used to control
the pollution from stationary sources.
-- Air quality Control Zones are designated
-- All petrol stations must
sell unleaded petrol (ULD)
3)
Advice and education
-- free advice is given on how to control pollution for
factories
-- environmental education to citizens is promoted through
schools and mass media
--create some leaflets to promote the effects of air pollution
