| GreenSweep Based in the Florida Keys which involves people in restoring and managing the environment. Projects include removing invasive plants such as the Brazilian pepper and Australian pine from public and private lands. Alternative Spring Break of Northwest Florida Hosted by The Nature Conservancy and Torreya State Park, students come together to work on projects at the Conservancy's state park. Students are able to work with park and preserve staff to learn about restoration. Disney Wilderness Preserve A 12,000 acre preserve which visitors can observe on a 3-mile hiking trail to learn about the preserve's plants and animals that are being protected. Volunteers help to manage the preserve by conducting prescribed burns and removing invasive plants. Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary In our very own backyard, Corckacrew Swamp offers volunteers an opportunity to assist in maintenance projects, leading group programs, being boardwalk guides who answers questions, and conducting bird and wildlife surveys. |
