Speaking for patrons, thanks to everybody who bought copies of the Hoohah! Vol. 1 CD-ROM, hope you enjoy it. For the rest of you Philistines, you can still get a copy of it here. It ain't on Napster, brother! AND, since we got to support our habits, please check out our new page of comics, original art, pulps and collectibes we're selling at the new Hoohah! Collectibles page. Bookmark it! Yeah, I'm talkin' at YOU!
Thanks also to all the nice cards, letters, semifores and Marconigrams that we received after the last issue. You can read some of them on our letters page, Who Cares?.
Before we start, quick story of something that happened to me recently.
I made Billy Mumy mad at me. Danger, Will Robinson, indeed!
Boy, he's tempremental. And I don't know him from Dr. Smith.
Here's wot hoppin: I just attended MegaCon in Orlando (big shout out to
Al at Basement Comics, Maryland in the House!), and the surviving members
of "Lost in Space" were there. Well, I'm old enough to remember when it
started on TV in glorious black and white. So I had to buy an autograph
from June Lockhart (who still looks cute, BTW). Afterwards I went to Billy's
table. Well, I'm not interested in lives of the stars, didn't know he played
guitar until I saw his pic with one. When I asked him, he said "We've got
four albums. You got to keep up." Anyway, I told him I just spent $20 to
buy an autograph from June, that I had to have it. He and his friend started
making fun of me like I was obsesed ("Oh, you HAD to have it.") I let that
pass. Then I said I couldn't shell out another another 20 clams for his autograph
and he said, half jokingly and half seriously, "Get away from my table."
If anybody out there knows him and wants to have him check out Hoohah!, tell
him I'll trade a CD for an autograph. And I'LL autograph the CD!
So what we got? We got John "San Francisco PI" Haines' excellent article
on how Kid Eternity is a Capt. Marvel rip-off! Didn't see that coming, did
ya? Yeah, baby. Next, we got a feature on an interesting if little discussed
comic, Heroic Comics No. 1, featuing Bill Everett and the ridiculous
Hydroman! What else? Oh, yeah, we got a reprint of what may be the first
(unpublished) Simon and Kirby story ever. More--in the Pulp Corner we're
trippin' on speed--the Trojan (DC) Speed pulps, that is.
In our key reprint departement it's the origin and first appearance of....wait
for it. That's right, The Four Comrades from Startling Comics No.
16.
I almost forgot. We've got a rare treat--a reprint of an article from the
legendary Writer's Digest about the 1941 comic book market! It's
"The Comics are Calling" by Robert Turner.
By the way, after last issue's critically acclaimed article on the Harvey
Champ Comics, guess what Heritage Auctions is offering? The Simon
and Kirby cover to Champ No. 21. Wowweeee. If you haven't seen it,
take a gander.
