| I came upon an adaptation of a crochet stitch while trying to concoct one that would work as quickly as triple crochet, but that wouldn't have all that open space between the stitches. These stitches -- as the caption below the image implies -- are joined midway up the height of each stitch. This closes the gaps in between. When I first decided to have an image of my stitches, I didn't have a "working" scanner, and I didn't have a digital camera either. So I sat at my computer with my drawing-tablet-thingy and my sample of stitches, and I drew what I saw. Yes, it took a Really Long Time -- including the use of Copy and Paste features. Then I realized something: As I am left handed, this image appears backwards to most of you. Therefore, I have added a righty's version of the picture. Perhaps I will even add a photograph, eventually. Now I need to find my detailed description of how to form a stitch and include it on this page. I would like to submit my invented stitch to craft magazines and such, and perhaps even apply for a patent. I just don't know where to start looking. If you have a suggestion, I'd be happy to listen. Just email me at the addy over there on the left. I think that the name "joined" already has a stitch assigned to it, so I may end up calling it "conjoined triple crochet." | Instructions for forming the Joined Triple Crochet Stitch | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| After forming base row, turn and ch 4. Wrap loops on hook as follows: Wrap once, insert hook into middle ch (or reach around entire breadth of ch as shown in ill. above) and pull loop to front, insert hook into first st of base row and pull loop to front, so that there are three loops added to your hook. Work stitch off hook as in regular triple crochet stitch.*(See note below.) There should appear an overlaying loop joining the ch to your new stitch. (**) Wrap hook once, insert hook into overlaying loop of previous st and pull to front, insert hook into second st of base row and pull to front, so that there are three loops added to your hook. Work stitch off hook as in regular triple crochet. You should now see two linked loops overlaying the ch and your first and second sts. Repeat from (**) for desired effect. If desired effect is not visible, your sts may be too tight or your hook may be too small. Try different sized hooks until you are satisfied with the result. Alternate Instructions: Instead of inserting hook into center of overlaying loop, insert hook around or into previous st just above or below overlaying loop. Continue working in the same manner for a repetitious effect, or alternate each stitch for a zig-zag effect.. (No illustrations available yet.) _______ * To work st off hook: wrap yarn around hook once, pull through two loops, wrap yarn once again, pull through two loops, wrap yarn once more, pull through last two loops. ________ Instructions Copyright Rebecca Curtis, 2003. |
