The man who smashed the
America's Auld Cupwebsite created by
I am indigenous native Maori of Aotearoa, Land of the Long White Cloud, New Zealand. This website was originally created to display poetry composed by my close relative Benjamin Nathan, but I have also included a piece that was composed by a direct ancestor of mine Taoho, Rangatira of Te Roroa. You will find other poetry composed by friends.
I have included articles on how Benjamin has transformed himself throughout the lean years.
Inside each of us is an artist, a poet, a writer. We express our selves in different ways, some more strongly than others. Within each of us is a spirit that directs us, guides us and even teaches us the lessons we were brought here to learn. You will find poetry here that has been written by Benjamin Nathan, the one and same person who smashed the America's Auld Cup. These poems were written years before this event took place and Benjamin had them published and placed at the Henderson Library, Auckland - where they are still kept.
Benjamin has transformed himself in many ways, overcoming obstacles that would make a weak man give up. Since his last project Prison Man and Soldiers Story play, Benjamin has enrolled in a Movie Production Course and will travel to study in the South Island. Personally, I admire his courage, strength and spirit for the many things he has achieved.
Whaia e koe te iti kahurangi
ki te tuohu koe, me he maunga teitei.
Seek the treasure you value the most;
if you bow let it be to a lofty mountain.

While serving his prison sentence for smashing the America's Cup, he used the time to complete his autobiography. Tino Rangatiratanga Ben tells of his life, his whanau and why he chose the path he walks...and he continues to write books.
He Tangi Mo Tuwhare is composed by my tupuna Te Roroa Rangatira -
