My Teaching Philosophy
My main goal as a teacher is to motivate my students to be life-long learners. I want my students to enjoy learning, and to seek answers to their own questions. I will do this by providing them with enjoyable learning experiences and "real-life" activities in a positive and safe environment. As Leila Christenbury, author of Making the Journey: Being and Becoming A Teacher of English Language Arts states, they need to learn the knowledge, then use it. My classroom will be like a studio where we are all teaching each other and learning from each other. The students have as much to teach me as I have to teach them. I plan on assessing the individual needs of my students every year and adjusting my curriculum to fulfill those to the best of my ability.
My EED 602 Class
I am currently taking EED 602 with Dr. Chang. This class is great! EED 602 is an advanced level course in the use of computers in the elementary school curriculum. The primary emphasis is on applications in the various curricular areas in the self-contained classroom with computers. Content include practical and theoretical considerations such as manipulating and analyzing data, communicating through a variety of electronic media, interacting and collaborating with others using the computer-based tools, and developing lessons based upon technological resources. Students review, modify and design teacher-created instructional materials that meet their own curricular needs. These materials include Web pages, visual charts and multimedia instructional modules. The major software tools used are word processing, database, spreadsheets, drawing and paint programs, Web publishing software, Internet search engines, and presentation tools. I am learning many new things that will help me inevitable when I begin teaching.
