My Stand on Cheating

With so many debates and disputes going on for some time with regards to the concept of "cheating" and "legitimacy", i just decided to write up this little paragraph entitled "My Stand on Cheating". Instead of posting on the Diablo Strategy Forum and drawing myself into the crossfire, i decided to publish this on my own site, so here goes:

"Essentially, it is of my opinion that Diablo is an extremely easy game to play and there is no reason at all to use a third party program to cheat in order to give yourself advantages over the computer.  The fact that there are people who have thrashed the game so badly despite heavy restrictions such as using only cursed items, mages using melee or ranged only, rogues with axes, naked characters etc shows that the game is not hard to play at all. Cheating merely spoils the game for you, making you lose the opportunity to learn about the various tactics and styles of play that has kept people on this game for so long. A cheater is likely to defeat Diablo with ease but will lack the skills that many experienced legits possess.  They will rarely, if ever, develop sufficient skills to play a naked character, let alone some variants of play that are far more demanding..."

"I have to confess that i was a cheater at first, but i became bored after a while and decided to turn over a new leaf and try out the game again. The different variants of play i found helped bring interest back to the game like never before and i totally enjoyed myself.  Playing legitly some variants taught me various aspects of the game and enabled me to understand the game mechanisms better.  This is what some termed 'skill' and is something i would never have learnt if i was just a godmoder who goes around with hacks all over and thrashing everything in sight. It is also these skills which i learnt over the time i spent playing which enabled me to enjoy the game even today..."

"Third party programs are distinctly cheats, however there are also many 'grey' areas where people have varied opinions about. Among these are the thieves suffix (not anymore), the manashield no-stun bug and other bugs in the game. Duping are of course no different from cheating though. What my main concern would be the modifications to games such as V&K mods, Purgatory and Retribution. These modifications are tremendous effects by some Diablo fans who wanted to keep up interest in Diablo for a greater amount of time. However, they are deemed by some as being hacks which is not legit. In my opinion, the playing of such mods would be legit as long as you play by the rules set by the designers and take nothing in or out of the mods (that includes characters and items). Afterall, despite all the uproar in the Diablo Strategy Forum about these so-called 'hacks', Blizzard has yet to take action against the designers of the mod..."

And that's it to my ranting. See ya and stay legit forever!
