In February of 1998 I started this survey page to test a theory I had. Whenever I would talk to people about their preferences, they always seemed to be choosing the same style. Using the long standing Cola wars as a base, I took my own preferences and the preferences of my friends and decided to make a survey asking people to choose between products that are very competitive. The theory was that Coke drinkers would lean towards Duracell for batteries, Dodge Vipers for cars, Corel WordPerfect for word processing, and Netscape for a web browser. Pepsi drinkers would be more interested in Energizer, Hummers, MSWord, and Microsoft Internet Explorer. While this theory did not turn out to be exactly right, I did notice some amazing similarities when it came down to the decisions people made. Pepsi drinkers were more likely to want Vipers, in fact, only one Pepsi drinker chose the Hummer. The other interesting thing was that in the beginning almost all results showed a preference towards Netscape, but near the end almost all results Pointed towards Microsoft Internet Explorer. Why? I'm not sure. My own choices in the survey were Coke, Duracell, Viper, WordPerfect, and Netscape.
