On May 8th and 9th Opeongo High School returned to its tradition of a musical. This production is the first since Mrs. Kennedy moved away taking the music with her.
Ten Lost Years deals with the serious subject of the Great Depression of the 1930's. The musical was adapted from a book, also called Ten Lost Years, by Barry Broadfoot. It is a collection of 32 short skits put together in a 2 hour production with 34 sceens.
This year, Mr. Derek Tolhurst took on the tremendous task of directing a fairly large

production. Along with his co-director Mrs. Fran Pinkerton they put together an amazing production.
The cast and crew spent many days perfecting their work and it all came together at the end. Just about everyone approached about Thursday's and Friday's performances had nothing but praise for their efforts.
One comment in particular that stands out in my mind is that the cast did and excellent job of portraying the seriousness of the subject at hand. The fact that the stories were true helped to make dealing with such a topic much more

interesting and enjoyable
I had the chance for a unique view of the musical from back stage. Being stage manager, I found out repeatedly just what it takes to produce something like this. A lot of late nights, stressful hours, and trying to stay organized does take its tole. However; if I were asked to do it again, I don't think that anyone could stop me. The memories and experience that I got out of this will be treasured forever.
Ten Lost Years is the kind of production that helps you realize how great Opeongo is and how its students can pull together and accomplish something fantastic.
