Presbytery finds new home for summer camp

     SYDNEY - The Sydney Presbytery of the United Church will hold a summer camp after all although it won't be at the usual Mira Pines location.

     The presbytery camp committee has rented Camp Bretondean for three weeks from the Anglican Church for young people who were at Mira Pines last year.

     Camp dates are Aug. 13-18 for ages nine to 12, Aug. 19-24 for ages 13-16 and Aug. 26-29 for ages six to eight. All camps will be co-ed.

     Camp Bretondean is located at 965 Hillside Rd., Mira.

     Hector MacDonald, chairman of a committee of the Sydney presbytery which ran the popular camp, did not want to comment Monday on the controversy surrounding the closure of Mira Pines camp at the usual location this year.

     The Cape Breton Post was told in an earlier story that Knox United Church in Glace Bay, which owns the property, has cancelled a 99year lease with the Sydney presbytery.
