The Weather forecast on our route

Portsmouth- Hardway sailing club, Friday August 3 2001

Tuesday morning we tied up to the pontoon of the HSC and immediately were invited to drink tea with our new neighbours and listen to their life story. Ton arrived from Holland and we enquired about using the derrick to lower the mast. That would not be a problem but could only be done with high tide. The boat shop next door knew a place where the brackets could be welded and offered to lend us a rivet gun to fix the bracket to the mast. The shop lent us their rivet gun (popnageltang) and some one else their battery operated drill. With all this help we managed to get our spreader bracket repaired (for free!) and put the mast back up again on Friday 3! Another person in the harbour (a long time blue water cruiser, temporarily ashore) explained us how to make ourselves a halfwinder (big sail for light winds) and took us to a discount sail materials whole seller to buy the fabrics. We now have 40 m of red spinnaker fabric on board and cant wait to make (with double sided tape) our own chute following the recipe of Mike Lee.
