Tuna fishing... (part 1)
South of Lisbon is where tuna is said to start to appear. We like tuna a lot. Especially fresh. From Louis, an experienced long distance cruiser, I learn how to fish for tuna. You buy a fat nylon line, about 100m and tie a bright colored rubber octopus to it as bait, and trail it behind the boat when sailing at 5 knots or more. The line is attached to a winch or cleat and a clip (on the railing or so) diverts the line a bit. When the tuna bites, the clip comes off the railing and tuna for dinner. Sofar so good and I swam ashore from our anchorage to buy tuna line in the small hardware store in the small village of Sesimbra. ´Would 2mm line do? That takes 126 Kg.´ I end up buying the 60Kgs, 1mm line and swim back to the boat to try the next day. -to be continued-

Algarve
When we crossed the bay of Biscay, the previous owner of our boat sent us an email that we had now ´earned´ another 3 months of summer warmth. In the Algarve, away from the foggy and windy corner and sometimes cold of Galicia, we can only agree with him. The result of this extended summer are the many hotels that spoil the coast, tourisme and serious overspending our budget for ice cream. But there are also silent places away from the coast.

´Vacation´
In Portimao (Algarve), we have been avoiding harbour fees for 10 days and decide that it is time for ´vacation´: away from the boat. I know that this may sound strange but life on board is busy. We put the boat in a secure marina and take the bus to Silves, an old town that has been one of the major towns of this area in the old glorious days of portugal. We take a room that overlooks an lemon orchard in an stylish old hotel on the edge of town, and visit the magnificent castle and read books (harry potter!). The next day, waiting at the busstop, laden with yoghurt and mozzarella (there was a LIDL in Silves!), we are offered a ride back to Portimao by a nice German couple and drink tea on board.

Planning and reality
Like in real life, we are taking much more time than planned. We like to visit all these places and also wannt to take a serious language class during this year. We still think that we can get all the way to Turkey or Greece by the summer of next year, while visiting all these nice islands and countries on the way. Two and a half month into the trip, we are already well behind schedule!...
