Materials:
* 2 sheets of 5/8" particle board. * 2 sheets of 18"x24" plexiglass for marquee and monitor bezel. * 1 50" roll of WoodTape brand of melamine edging. * 1 quart of KILZ "Total One" primer. * Various grits of sandpaper. * Wood glue and putty. * Woodscrews * Drawer slides for keyboard tray. * 1 14" flourescent light assembly. * 5 cans of Krylon gloss white.
Construction:
Most of the straight cuts were done at Home Depot. Prior to cutting, I used a PD graph paper software (use Alta Vista for search) to lay out all the cut pieces and transfer them onto the 4x8 sheets of particle board.
After all the cuts were made, they were glued and screwed together. The marquee was one made by Robert Kirk that was downloaded from the Arcade Controls website. It was then printed from a continous roll of photo paper on a HP industrial inkjet. Then it was sandwiched between two sheets of plexiglass.
The entire cabinet was painted with the primer, sanded down with 200 grit paper and sprayed with the Krylon gloss white. The result is a textured finish similar to a refrigerator "orange peel" type. |
