Computer:
* AMD K6/2 400 with a FIC 503+ MB * 64 mb ram * 1.3 gb hardrive. * 1 old 6x CD. * 17" monitor * Cheapie Labtec speakers * Sounblaster 16 ISA * Matrox Mystique video card * 56k internal modem * Furture Domain ISA SCSI * Arcade@Home front end running Windoze 95.
This project was originally started by using spare computer parts lying around. I soon realized the original MB and CPU (Cyrix 166) was too slow and had to be replaced. I had an old MAG 15" monitor that was adequate, but as soon as my wife heard me complain about it, she allowed me to buy a 17" :)
It sure helps to have an understanding wife to put up with the mess and expense this project has incurred. Since I live in Las Vegas and it is now summer, I had to do most of the work indoors. I estimate the entire project, including tools, materials, new MB/CPU and monitor cost around $650. Estimated time till completion around 50 hours. Was it worth it??? You bet.....for such a low sum I can relive some of my childhood memories. |
