I decided to go watch the NASCARs on Saturday's practice and qualifying sessions rather than on race day Sunday to avoid the crowd, expected to be more than 100,000. Even on Saturday, there were plenty of people at Sears Point Raceway, but not enough to block good views of the cars and the track.

Turn 7, which is at the end of The Chute, a NASCAR-only shortcut right-hand "straight" from Turn 4, was made slower and sharper from last year to force braking and hopefully, more passing. Many drivers tested their cars' limits here during the practice sessions - a few of them went a little beyond...
