LISTENING
MINAH'S LISTENING TIPS

I know alot of you have problems listening to real life listening.  Here are some tips to help you.

1. It is NOT necessary to understand every single word that a person says. Train yourself to get the main idea of what is being said. It really isn't necessary to understand every word to understand the point of what is being said.

2. If you are having problems understanding what is going on, look at nonverbal cues. That is, look at body language the person or people are conveying - watch their gestures, facial expressions, tone of voice,  posture. These all give you a big clue.

3. Predict what you will hear. If you know what the topic is about, that is a big help in understanding.

4. Often times, the main point is repeated several times during the conversation. Of course, it is said in different ways, but the point is the same.

5. Culture is a big part of listening. When you are listening to or watching a video, movie or tape, you should try to understand that country's culture.  This helps with understanding (especially with real world listening).

6. Relax and have fun with it! If you make it fun it will be easier to learn.^^
