Milroy Schools

Independent School District 95 was organized in 1898 near its current
location.
In 1904 a four room building was erected, employing three teachers. In the
winter of 1909-1910, this building was destroyed by fire.(See bottom of page
for original 1909 building, and its replacement.)
Soon after, plans were made to build a new wooden-structured school. In 1917,
plans were drafted for a brick and tile addition to the building and to brick
and tile veneer the old building. This building stood until its demolition in
August 1997.
In 1939, the gymnasium was built.
In 1955, the school was expanded, providing expansion of the gym, new office
space, elementary class rooms, industrial arts area, and the home economics
room.
In 1972, another expansion included the current lunch room, library, music
room, vocational agriculture rooms and shop, and kindergarten class rooms. This
addition replaced what was known as the old "Sheep Shed", which was built in
1948 for the 5th and 6th grades.
-From the Milroy, MN Diamond Jubilee, Historical Anthology
In 1997, history was inveiled during demolition when the brick veneer of the
oldest building was removed, revealing the wooden siding of the original 1917
structure.
The first graduating class was in 1923. The last graduating class was in 1989
as the high school consolidated with Tracy, MN. The school currently consists
of Kindergarten through 8th grade.
