History

Milroy,MN was named for Major General Robert H. Milroy, a Union soldier of
the Civil War. The city of Milroy was incorporated in Western Redwood County on
October 6, 1902. Population 177. The first businesses were stores operated by
Zeingham and Woodruff, George Brundage, Altermatt and Schwandt, and Olson and
Olson. J. A. Looney, Hardware; John Drees, Saloon; Robert Reichel, Hotel;
Edwards and Hickey, Harnessmaker; F.M. Rolfe, Barber; Fredrickson and Olson,
Implement Dealers; Curtis and Propp, Livery and Dray; Hayes Lucas Lumber Co.
and J.H. Queal Lumber Yards; Nelson Brothers, Sleepy Eye Milling Co., and
Springfield Milling Co. operated elevators.

The first village officers were as follows: Mayor, Otto Schwandt; Councilmen,
R.F. Edwards, J.J. Klein, J.A.Looney; Recorder, F.M. Rolfe: Treasurer, J. F.
Bickford.
