wolf, and their instincts are identical (but malamutes have a much more domesticated, mellower temperament.) To understand the ways of this breed you will have to learn to communicate with it. Malamutes demand a lot from their family packs; they want to be in every family activity they can participate in. They also demand that their instincts, body language, and vocalizations be respected. But, sometimes they can be overwhelming and you need to make sure your malamute knows you are the "Alpha dog" and what you say goes. Just take in mind that a malamute has extremely sensitive feelings.
These magnificent animals are far gentler in character than you would expect, for such a large breed. But with no discipline the Alaskan Malamute will become a dominant, overbearing animal. With love, care, discipline, and friendship this dog will be extremely loyal and will do almost anything to please its master.
