Tool Reference

Selection Tools

  • Marquee Tools:
    These tools select a certain part of the image in a certain shape. Use the tools by dragging across where you want to select.
  • Move Tool:
    This tool moves or selects a layer. Drag a layer and release the LMB to drop the layer off at its current position.
  • Lasso Tools:
    These are tools that can select parts of images using shapes that are freeformed or using straight lines.

  • Quick Selection Tool/Magic Wand:
    These tools select areas with similar color or pattern.
  • Crop Tool:
    The crop tool crops an image to make is smaller or to cut out unneeded parts of an image.
  • Eyedropper Tool:
    This tool selects a certain color for other uses.

Alteration Tools

  • Healing Brush Tools:
    These tools remove blemishes and unwanted spots.
  • Brush Tool:
    This tool makes shapes like the stroke of a brush.
  • Clone Stamp Tool:
    This tool takes another part of an image and pastes it to another part.
  • History Brush Tool:
    This tool paints from a past image of history.
  • Eraser Tool:
    This tool removes a part of a layer.
  • Gradient Tool:
    This tool creates a gradient in a layer.
  • Blur Tool:
    This tool blurs a part of a layer.
  • Dodge Tool:
    This tool lightens a part of a layer.

Vector Tools

  • Pen Tool:
    This tool creates a path with vectors.
  • Text Tool:
    This tool creates a text layer.
  • Direct Selection Tool:
    This tool moves or selects a path.
  • Shape Tools:
    These tools create a certain shape in the image.

Helping Tools

  • Hand Tool:
    This tool moves the zoomed in part of the image.
  • Zoom Tool:
    This tool zooms in or out an image.
