I am going to tell you about the differences between my Japanese high school and American high school. My high school at home is called Kyuyo High School. I went to that high school until one year ago. I am at Eagle High School in America now. I have discovered some differences between these two schools. So, I will tell you about them.
At high school in America, we have 2 days off each week. Japanese students have to go to school Suturday mornings and sometimes, they even have to go to school on Sunday for an examination. So, Japanese students hardly have any free time. The Japanese school day is also longer than American's. In Japan, we study 8 hours a day, while American students study 6 hours a day at school. American students have to be educated for 13 or 14 years, but Japanese students don't have to go to school after graduate 9 th grade. This means that we don't have to go to high school in Japan. But if you want to go to high school, you have to take an examination to enter. A person's educational background is all-important in Japan. So, some people start studying when they are still small children. They study to go to a good school. Recently, students must now take an examination to even go to a good elementary school. Most American students are optimistic about their education compared with Japanese students.
Also, Japanese school rules are strict compared with American school rules. In America, you can dye your hair or chew gum during class, you can have a tattoo and so on in America. But Japanese students cannot do those things. We even have to wear school uniforms at most Japanese high schools. Sometimes, we are even told that we must wear white socks and school ties. Traditionally, the Japanese think that identity is important.
