November 04, 2000 AD In gratitude

I checked the site stats today, and found we have gone over the 1000 hit mark. Not bad for a 7 week old home page that is not listed on any search engine outside of this host server, Yahoo.
The only other place where the site was announced is the Addlebrain FISP information board.

To this I say thank you to all you out there who made this site a success.
Whilst I’m on this subject, permit me to prattle on a bit.

I feel that there are three main reasons that people visit a site. (You could also say that there are three main categories of web content)

1) Information pertaining to specific interests:
2) Appropriate Links to other sites of same.
3) Software.
An important postscript would be frequent content additions or updates.

The primary information for this site is, of course, FISPs. In addition, I felt that information pertaining to the overall net “experience”, (taking into account the limited time and resources) would be a nice fit.

Links of course is a part of that information: you need to feed visitors with a means to expand their knowledge beyond what your site offers.

I always liked a site that offered software. And of course, True Freeware was the bast. Hence, the freeware section. It is also a place for me to share any programs I have written with you.

I also think that just throwing out a mix of titles doesn’t cut it: so there is a method, or genre to the section. Utilities, free (of course) small, functional, something that a software nut like myself gets a kick out of either discovering or writing.

I’ll continue to keep my eyes peeled for freeware that meets this criteria.

More random thoughts:
I believe that I don’t “own” or run this site. You, the visitors and contributors do. I’m just here to maintain it.
Actually, it makes it much easier and more fun to do with that attitude.

So with this, I humbly bid a large thank you to all who have visited and contributed to this site. I will continue to solicit and be appreciative of comments, critiques, suggestions, etc.

Though there are no guarantees in life, I will also commit to adding content on a frequent basis.

I hope that this bit of personalization which pops up on most sections is welcome.

I also thank you for putting up with the rudimentary HTML design.
In remembrance, since there are a plethora of browsers, color cards, operating systems, etc. out there, if the color scheme or layout looks bad let me know.

10/30: Well, it's time for a revamp of the site. It's grown to the point to where the "one page for everything" is just too long and cumbersome.
I wish to thank all the contributors who have made this more of a community project. I appreciate it. And to all the people who have visited.
The revamped site should be up by the middle of this week.

10/23: The FreeWare section is getting a bit large for one page, but I don't think it's large enough yet to split up into different catagories. Always looking for suggestions or links to good Freeware. Criteria: under 100k. Functional, one of those "How did I live without this" type of things.

10/16: Checked the Site Stats, surprised to see over 500 visitors since this site opened a little over a month ago. Though at least 35 hits are from me, still; considering it's only listed on Yahoos neighborhood and one discussion board (addlebrain), I'm pleasantly surprised. Thanks for visiting!
