HISTORY & OVERVIEW

HISTORY

I first came across this game in the early 90's under the name OverLord, put out - as I recall - by a company named Orian or Orign.

At the time I thought, and so did my friends, that it was pretty cool. The only hassle was you had to look and enter a particular word in the manual for the program to run. And the manual was pretty extensive, and was printed on that crappy paper that wouldn't Xerox well.
The bad old days of copy protection.

I forgot about it until I started haunting Abandonware sites and replaying some of the Golden Oldies. Though I found a plethora of antique gems, no luck with this one.

Then as luck would have it, I was killing time perusing a site and happened to catch a screenshot of this game, Supremacy. Instant recognition.

It's the exact same game, put out under the Virgin label.

The good: They removed the copy protection.

The bad (but no biggie) the rather lame sound effects were replaced by even lamer sound effects. Fortunatly it's easy to turn 'em off.

I noticed that the game didn't get much action, and for good reason: though easy to learn, unless you've got at least a rudimentry knowledge on how it works, It can be a chore. (It's played in "real time," so whilst you're figuring out what in the heck to do, the bad guy attackes your planet and you're toast.) and the download had zip for instructions.

So's I got the puppy, recalled the commands, and killed some time.

It holds up well. Using todays standards, I'd say the game is cool and is worth a try. Note I didn't say it's WAY COOL, or FANTASTIC! but it is cool. Well worth a download.

The Savedgame editor/cheat, written by yours truely, is included on this site for download.
All freeware of course.

With the editor you can modify all important assests of the game, including giving yourself an instant, fully trained and armed to the max, army. See the section on the editor/cheat for more details.

OVERVIEW

Supremacy is one of those build up your base, terraform & populate other planets, grow food, mine for minerals, etc., use your cargo & battle ships to transport food, minerals, food & troops; recruit, train, arm and ultimatly battle and conquer the Enemies base to win.

It has four distinct "levels", with four different bad guys, each with different degrees of intellegence and agression, set in different universes.

The game is such that though it easy to learn, assuming you know what icon does what, it's not that easy. If, for instance, you've never played before, and challange the big bad guy, guaranteed you'll lose.

It is almost entirely mouse driven.

It is in "real time", as opposed to turn based, so if you go for a potty break without pausing the game you might become toast.
The graphics are EGA, which, considering the age, hold up well.

It's the the four progressive levels that sets this one apart from the rest of that era. Simply put, you won't get bored with it nearly as fast as some of the others.

See the Gameplay Tutorial for more details.
