A dietary supplement for the promotion of cardiovascular health and for persons taking HMG-CoA-reductase Inhibiting Drugs*
Co-Stat TM provides a unique combination of nutrients for the promotion of optimal cardiovascular health and that provide support for persons on lipid-lowering HMG-CoA-reductase inhibiting drugs.* The nutritional ingredients in Co-Stat TM are provided in the amounts shown to be beneficial in scientific studies. The key ingredient is coenzyme Q10.
Studies have found that HMG-CoA-reductase inhibiting (statin) drugs such as lovastatin and simvastatin may reduce levels of coenzyme Q10. This reduction is reversed by oral supplementation with coenzyme Q10.* Generally regarded as a key nutritional supplement for cardiac health, coenzyme Q10 is an essential component of mitichondrial membranes, acting as an intermediate in the mitochondrial respiratory chain.* It is in highest concentration in the myocardium and therefore essential for normal energy production and performance.* Patients taking beta-blockers, like those taking statin drugs, have also been found to have low levels of coenzyme Q10. In addition to supporting mydocardial function, coenzyme Q10 is a powerful antioxidant shown to inhibit oxidation of LDL- cholesterol.*
Vitamin E is a powerful deterrent to LDL- cholesterol oxidation.* It acts in conjunction with selenium in the production of glutathione peroxidase. Vitamin E has also been shown to enhance the actions of coenzyme Q10. Recent epidemiological studies have demonstrated the cardioprotective effects of vitamin E in both men and women.
Vitamin C also inhibits LDL- cholesterol oxidation.* It has also been shown to reduce the tocopheryl radical and therefore regenerate vitamin E. In addition to fibrinolytic actions, vitamin C also supports endothelial vasomotor function*.
Elevated levels of serum homocysteine have been clearly linked to increased risk of coronary heart disease. The combination of folic acid, vitamin B-6, and vitamin B12 has been shown to lower homocysteine by converting it to cystathione and/or reconverting it to monomethionine. Low levels of these three nutrients are commonly found in individuals with elevated levels of homocysteine.*
Recommended Use:
As a dietary supplement, take one caplet of Co-Stat TM twice daily or as directed by your health care professional. Co-Stat TM is particularly designed as a long term adjunct for persons taking HMG-CoA-reductase inhibiting (statin) drugs. Co-Stat TM is recommended for long term use as pert of a daily supplement regime and comprehensive wellness program
Contraindications, adverse reactions or interactions
There are no known contrindications to the long term use of the ingredients in Co-Stat and no known interactions with any of its ingrdients with commonly prescribed medications. There are no known contraindications to the use of Co-Stat during pregnancy or lactation.
